Born in South Africa and raised in Zimbabwe, I arrived in Canada in the late 80’s. I’ve painted or been involved with art for most of my life. I kept the wolf from the door as an art director and creative director for several major multinational advertising agencies in Johannesburg and Toronto, until deciding to move out into the country, north of Kingston, to paint full-time in 2003. Since then, I've shown my work with success at a number of juried events including The Art Gallery of Northumberland's Annual Festival, the Fine Art Festivals in both Merrickville and Westport, and the Cobourg Waterfront Festival. My work can currently be found in private collections in Toronto, Ottawa and points in between. Currently I exhibit at, and am represented by, the Tay River Gallery in Perth & Ottawa, and the Robert Macklin Gallery in Kingston. I can now be found in my studio in downtown historic Cobourg, as well as at artmikesmith@cogeco.ca |
