Born in South Africa and raised in Zimbabwe, I arrived in
Canada in the late 80’s.
I’ve painted or been involved with art for most of my life.
I kept the wolf from the door as an art director and creative director for several major multinational advertising agencies in Johannesburg and Toronto, until deciding to move out into the country to paint full-time in 2003.
Since then, I've shown my work with success at a number of juried events including The Art Gallery of Northumberland, the Fine Art Festivals in Merrickville, Westport, Brighton, Cobourg, Pelham, and Buckhorn - as well as the McMichael Autumn Art Sale in Kleinberg, the Ottawa Art Expo, the Tay River Gallery in Perth & Ottawa, and the Robert Macklin Gallery in Kingston.
My work can be found in private collections in the US, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and points between.
I can now usually be found in my studio in downtown
historic Cobourg, as well as
at artmikesmith@gmail.com
